Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The Kohunlich Archaeological Zone located outside the city of Chetumal is scheduled for closure. The site will be closed to the public starting June 18 for rehabilitation.
As part of the federal government project Archaeological Zones Improvement Program, Kojunlich will be closed until further notice. The closure was announced by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
“The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, through the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), informs that the Kohunlich Archaeological Zone located in Quintana Roo, will temporarily close to the public starting Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
“The site will be closed until further notice due to the development of the projects of the Archaeological Zones Improvement Program. The INAH invites the public to visit other archaeological sites that are open in this state, such as Cobá, Dzibanché-Kinichná, Tulum and San Miguelito,” the Instituto Nacional de Antropología y Historia (INAH) said.
Kohunlich Archaeological Zone is located 69 kilometers west of the city of Chetumal.
