Cancun, Q.R. — A 20-year-old woman was shot dead outside a pharmacy in Cancun Wednesday night. Police requested support from paramedics when they arrived and found the woman had been shot several times.
Eye witnesses said the woman, who was in the company of two others at the time, was shot by armed men who fled in a red pickup truck. They reported that of the three walking together, it was the woman who was targeted.
All three are reported to be between the ages of 20 and 22. One of the victim’s friends was taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office by police for questioning.
The shooting happened Wednesday night in Supermanzana 210. Emergency services received the public report at 8:20 p.m. saying that a woman had been shot at the corner of 127th Avenue and Leona Vicario Street.
Police officers from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security confirmed the report. They arrived to find the young woman lying on the pavement in a pool of blood.
According to available information, seven spent shell casings of a short weapon, apparently .9 millimeters, were located at the scene.
The woman had been shot several times in the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not locate the pickup truck described by witnesses during their area search for the gunmen.
