Tulum, Q.R. — A man was left laying in the middle of a Tulum street Monday dead from a gunshot. The shooting happened in Aldea Tulum Monday morning at the intersection of Turquesa and Berilo avenues where two men are reported to have targeted their victim before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Emergency services, including Municipal Police arrived, but not until after the gunmen fled. Police cordoned off the area after the victim was confirmed dead. The deceased has not been named. Authorities have not commented on a possible motive for the shooting.
The fatal shooting reportedly took place while Tulum authorities were holding a security meeting in the Tulum City Hall Council Chambers.
Shortly after the meeting, the SSC of Tulum said “Regarding the events that occurred in the Aldea Tulum neighborhood, where a man lost his life due to an armed attack, the Ministry of Public Security and Citizen Protection has implemented an operation in coordination with authorities at various levels of government to locate the alleged attackers.”

On Monday morning during an FGE security press conference in Cancun, Raciel López Salazar, head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), reported that from January to June, crime rates in the municipality of Tulum decreased by 12 percent compared to 2024.
