Cancun, Q.R. — A group of gang members known for their violence and drug sales to Cancun tourists have been arrested. The group of six were picked up on drug offenses in Cancun earlier in the week.

The six men were arrested in a coordinated effort between the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and National Guard. According to authorities, they are known gang members “dedicated to the marketing of drugs in this district.”

On Thursday, specialized officers announced the capture of Edgar Antonio “N”, Misael Eduardo “N”, Alejandro “N”, Miguel “N”, Elmer “N” and Agustín “N” from SM 24 in central Cancun.

“At the time of their arrest, the subjects were seized with substances with characteristics typical of various drugs,” their arrest statement read.

Authorities reported that their first field and office investigations indicate that Edgar Antonio “N” is in charge of all drug sales points in Cancun and that his main center of operations is Mercado 28, a location that functions as a “sales” module for tourists.

Meanwhile, Misael Eduardo “N” has the function of monitoring the points of sale in this area as well as depositing the money from the day’s sales into the accounts of his “bosses”.
