Five injured in Tulum highway accident

Tulum, Q.R. — Five people were left with injuries after a vehicle accident in the municipality of Tulum. The accident was recorded at kilometer 18 of the Tulum-Cobá highway Thursday near the town of Macario Gómez.

Reports say the accident was caused when an SUV tried to pass a car, not noticing another oncoming vehicle. The 31-year-old driver of the SUV, José Eduardo N from Mexico City and his three passengers, were transferred to different area hospitals for injuries.

The second vehicle, a white Nissan Versa from Michoacán, was unable to avoid the impact and collided head-on with the SUV, injuring its driver, 37-year-old José Guadalupe N from Yucatán.

Authorities have reported that both vehicles were a total loss.
