Five injured in fiery two vehicle Tulum highway collision

Tulum, Q.R. — Several people were left seriously injured after a late night two vehicle collision outside Chemuyil in the municipality of Tulum. Emergency services were at the scene of the 11:00 p.m. crash that left one car destroyed and the other on fire.

One of the involved vehicles burst into flames upon impact. Five people, three women and two men, were rushed to hospital. The accident happened on a section of highway approximately 20 kilometers north of the town of Tulum.

Highway motorists called for help after coming upon the accident. Paramedics treated the injured while firemen worked to free at least one person found trapped inside a vehicle.

National Guard who were also at the scene directed traffic while other emergency personnel worked to extinguish the burning car and transport the injured to hospital. The highway was shut for more than an hour while the road was cleared of the accident. Police have not provided a cause for the late night crash.
