Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Five people have been arrested for the murders of the seven who died in the January 6 bar shooting in Playa del Carmen.
In a press release, the Attorney General of the State says they collected sufficient evidence that led to the arrest of the five men, who they add, will go to trial.
Those arrested are named as José N, Ricardo N, Jorge N, Luis N and Edgar N and are from the states of Quintana Roo, Campeche and Tabasco. Their identities corresponded to those seen on security cameras where two were seen shooting and three, standing guard outside.
According to Oscar Montes de Oca Rosales of the Fiscal General del Estado (FGE), the men were taken into custody in an operation implemented by agents of the Investigative Ministerial Police and the Municipal Police of Solidaridad during surveillance on the Playa del Carmen-Mérida highway.
He said “During the interviews of detainees, they said they belonged to a gang of kidnappers who had two security houses, providing location information of said properties, and also indicated that they had firearms and victims.”
Since their arrest, the two properties believed used as safe houses along with three vehicles were searched.
The five men arrested are believed responsible for an attack on a bar in a neighborhood on the west side of Playa del Carmen. On January 6, seven people were killed when men opened fire on the bar, Las Virginias.
