Firemen save Playa del Carmen hotel kitchen from ruins in afternoon chimney blaze

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen firemen saved a hotel kitchen from complete ruins Sunday. The afternoon fire was reported to authorities at 12 Bees in central Playa del Carmen around 1:30 p.m.

Firemen said a buildup of grease in the chimney is deemed the likely cause of the small fire that left the kitchen heavily damaged. A cook was reportedly using the deep fryer when the kitchen suddenly filled with smoke and flames began to emerge.

Staff were able to control the fire, preventing the flames from spreading beyond the ceiling until firemen arrived at the hotel on 12 Bis Street between 30th and 35th Avenues in the Centro neighborhood.
