Firemen deal with early evening palapa fire in residential Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — A building reported on fire in El Milagro of Cancun was put out by local firemen Tuesday. A grass palapa was found by responding firemen completely engulfed in flames.

Neighbors made the report Tuesday evening of a smoldering palapa, however, by the time authorities arrived, it had already turned to flames.

Cancun firemen reported attending to the fire in response to the residential report, noting that there were no injuries reported.

Authorities did not provide a possible cause for the fire in their statement.

“We responded to a fire in a residential area,” the Cancun fire department posted. “Cancun Firefighters responded to a call about a fire in the El Milagro neighborhood, where a palapa was completely engulfed in flames.

“Our personnel carried out firefighting and control maneuvers, successfully extinguishing the fire. They then performed cooling and inspection operations to rule out any risk to nearby homes. Inside, some items were damaged by the flames.

“Fortunately, no one was injured. In case of an emergency, call the official numbers immediately. Your report can save lives.”
