Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Traffic on the Chetumal-Merida highway was affected Sunday morning by an accident involving two semis. The two double long units collided nearly head on after the driver of one attempted to pass a car.
Highway traffic along route 186 near the town of Nicolás Bravo was at a standstill for hours while Transit authorities sorted out the entangled metal mess.
The collision between the two units caused one to become jackknifed with its cab crushed against the rear of the hit semi and his own trailers twisted beside him in the ditch. Both lanes were left completely blocked.
Neither of the drivers was injured in the crash. National Guard Highways were on scene and able to eventually open a section of highway shoulder for the passage of vehicles.
