Extorting Riviera Maya businesses: Police capture pair from Sinaloa Cartel during bust on Tulum highway

Tulum, Q.R. — Two women connected to the Sinaloa Cartel’s Doña Leti faction, were arrested in Tulum. Both men are accused of extorting Riviera Maya businesses. They were picked up on drug-related offences over the holidays and remain in police custody.

Authorities say “Celia “N” and Zitlaly Ariana “N” were arrested for drug-related offenses and are believed to be connected to the Sinaloa Cartel’s Doña Leti faction, which extorts businesses in the Riviera Maya,” the SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) reported.

Both women were arrested by members of the Centurion Group, in coordination with the Mexican Navy and the Mexican Army after they were “observed near the trunk of a white vehicle exchanging small plastic bags containing a green, leafy substance resembling marijuana,” the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) added.

The incident occurred on the federal highway at kilometer 307 in the municipality of Tulum. Upon noticing police, the women ran toward the vehicle, however, police blocked their path and prevented an escape.

During a preventive search, the arresting officer said they seized over 100 bags of narcotics including marijuana and crystal methamphetamine. Two cell phones and their white Quintana Roo-plated Volkswagen Jetta was seized.
