Cancun, Q.R. — The owners of a tequileria in the Cancun Hotel Zone woke up to a devastated restaurant Thursday. An early morning New Year’s Day fire left the business in ruins.
Firemen were notified of smoke seen coming out of the front door of the tequileria early Thursday. Since the establishment was shut at the time, firemen had to force-enter the premesis where they found the inside in flames.
They were able to control the fire and prevent it from further spreading, however, the tequileria was heavily damaged in the New Year’s Day blaze.

Attending firemen said a kitchen fire was to blame for the devestation that ate through most of the resturant. There were no injuries reported from the fire. Authorities have not speculated on fire damage cost.
“Fire response at commercial establishment,” the Cancun Fire Department reported Thursday. “On the morning of January 1st, the Cancun Fire Department responded to a fire inside a business located in the Hotel Zone.
“Upon arrival, smoke was detected emanating from the establishment, requiring a forced entry to gain safe access.

“Once inside, personnel located an initial fire in the kitchen area, which was promptly contained and extinguished, preventing its spread.
“Subsequently, ventilation and removal operations were carried out to eliminate risks and ensure the safety of the building. No injuries were reported.”
