Tulum, Q.R. — The collision between two trucks along the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway left one dead and several others injured. The accident happened around 11:00 a.m. Monday just outside the municipality of Tulum.
Emergency responders attending to the crash site arrived to find one male deceased and several others riding in the back of the open-bed cargo truck, injured.
Firefighters and elements of the National Guard also arrived. Firemen were requested at the scene to remove two people from inside the twisted metal of the pickup truck. One of the two removed by firemen died on scene. Ambulances arrived and transferred the remaining five people to hospital.
The cargo truck involved was transporting palapa-building workers to Tulum from Cancun when he was hit from behind by the pickup truck. The workers riding in the bed of the cargo vehicle were injured. Personnel from the National Guard closed the road while emergency services attended to the scene.
