Driver walks away after hitting patch of loose highway gravel

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The driver of an SUV was lucky to walk away after skidding his vehicle on its side. The single vehicle accident happened early Tuesday outside the town of Xul-Ha.

The driver was traveling the federal highway when he lost control and slammed head on into a pole. The vehilce overturned and was totaled in the accident. The driver, the only occupant, walked away with only minor bumps and bruises.

According to preliminary information, the male driver lost control of his Mexico City-plated vehicle after hitting a patch of loose gravel.

Police were on scene while a tow truck up-righted the vehicle and readied it for towing. Firemen were called in to assist in the cleaning of the highway to remove the gravel believed responsible for the accident.
