Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A semi driver that strayed from his intended route became entangled in overhead lines in the El Pedregal neighborhood. The entanglement left several blocks of residents without electricity until the unit was moved.
Authorities were called to 38th Street near 60th Avenue where the double long semi was found stopped in the middle of a residential road.
According to those who live on the street, the vehicle snagged an overhead power line that crosses the street, temporarily leaving them without power.
Municipal traffic officers arrived to assess the situation and detain the driver.
Initial reports indicate that the driver was unfamiliar with the route and entered the residential area where the large number of low-hanging cables made it difficult for the vehicle to pass.
CFE personnel were called in to cut the electricity while the semi was maneuvered from the residential street. There were no injuries reported.
