Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Speed and wet roads are being factored into a single vehicle highway accident that left one person dead. On Wednesday evening, National Guard were called to the highway near Xul-Ha due to a single vehicle rollover.
Witnesses who saw the accident said the driver was speeding when the truck suddenly flipped, ejecting the driver from the vehicle. He was thrown through the door and onto the pavement.
The 45 year old male driver of the small pickup was found dead on the highway several meters from his vehicle which was found stopped in the middle of the road. National Guard personnel confirmed he was dead and requested personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office.
Traffic in the area was partially closed while emergency services removed the man’s body from the highway. Debris from the rolled truck was scattered around the scene of the crash which also took time to remove. Authorities have not identified the deceased driver.
