Driver pronounced at the scene in single vehicle motorcycle accident

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A fatal highway skid has claimed the life of a Riviera Maya motorcycle driver. On Sunday morning, emergency services were requested at the scene of the single vehicle accident near Punta Venado.

The driver was thrown from his bike after hitting the central median January 25, 2026.

Drivers called for help around 7:30 a.m. after watching the driver of the motorcycle lose control and hit the central median. He was thrown from his bike, landing on the pavement. Despite wearing a helmet, he died.

National Guard Highways were part of the first responders Sunday morning.

At the scene, they found a downed motorcycle with a detached front tire. Seveal meters away was the driver. The accident happened near a highway curve approximately 17 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen.

Paramedics who pronounced the male driver dead at the scene covered the body while waiting for the coroner. The deceased has been identified as Kevin Omar de la Cruz.

The reason for the fatal crash into the central median is not known.
