Tulum, Q.R. — The driver believed responsible for a two vehicle crash Friday night is being sought by police. A Tulum cyclist was taken to hospital Friday night after being hit by a car. Two vehicles were involved in the late night accident that sent the young man to hospital.
Police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Quetzal and Chan Chen Streets in response to a 9-1-1 accident report. At the scene, paramedics found an injured bicyclist. He was treated by paramedics before being transferred to hospital by ambulance.
At the same scene, police located two badly damaged cars. One of the cars was a company vehicle that provides tourist services. According to the young bicyclist, that car hit him but tried to keep going, however, while trying to flee the scene, the driver hit another car.
The alleged responsible driver abandoned his blue Versa at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing the driver run from the car before police arrived. The driver of the second vehicle that was struck from the side was treated for a leg injury.
Police mounted a search operation for the driver of the alleged responsible car but were unable to locate him.
