Driver dragged several meters by semi rounding corner in critical condition

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Paramedics rushed a man to Chetumal hospital Thursday after he was run over then dragged by a semi. The accident happened on a section of highway north of the city when the man was on a motorcycle.

Witnesses reported watching as the semi driver took a corner without seeing the motorcycle. As he rounded the corner, the bike was run over and its driver dragged for several meters.

Emergency personnel from Chetumal were sent to the scene of the Thursday morning accident. Personnel worked more than 30 minutes to free the man, who they found stuck between a set of rear tires.

Medical personnel from Chetumal rushed the motorcycle driver to hospital in critical condition.

According to initial reports, the motorcycle driver was heading south to the town of Luis Echeverría Álvarez when he was run over. Other motorcycle drivers who saw what happened stopped to call for help.

The driver of the semi was taken into police custody from the scene of the accident. Both the semi and mangled motorcycle were towed.
