Driver dies in single vehicle Tulum highway crash

Tulum, Q.R. — A man from the town of Francisco Uh May in the municipality of Tulum was killed Sunday in a single vehicle accident. The driver, 34-year-old Daniel Jesús “N”, died in a high speed highway crash.

Authorities arrived at the Sunday morning scene around 7:00 a.m. to a dead driver laying in overgrowth near his car. The accident happened on a section of the Tulum-Cobá state highway when the driver swerved off the highway and overturned at least once before coming to a stop in the ditch.

According to available information, witnesses who stopped to help said the driver was alive after the accident and able to open the door to crawl out of his car, but died next to his vehicle before paramedics arrived. Emergency responders pronounced the male driver and sole occupant of the Yucatan-plated BMW dead at the scene.

The driver was originally from Chemax, Yucatan, but living in the community of Francisco Uh May. He was heading toward the town of Tulum at the time of the crash. An official cause for the deadly accident remains under investigation.
