Driver arrested from failed highway pass that left Tulum motorcyclist dead

Tulum, Q.R. — The driver of a car involved in a fatal highway accident was arrested Monday. Paramedics confirmed the death of a motorcycle driver who was hit by the car Monday afternoon.

The accident was reported on the federal highway near the Vesica cenote outside the town of Tulum. Witnesses reported seeing the car invade the motorcycle’s lane while trying to pass another vehicle.

During the attempted vehicle take-over, he met the motorcycle in the opposite lane. Both collided head-on.

The motorcycle and driver were thrown into the highway shoulder. The bike was found destroyed and the driver laying dead beside it.

Paramedics from the Tulum hospital confirmed his death at the scene. Police cordoned off the area while they worked at the site.

Both the car and motorcycle were found on the same side of the highway meters apart.

The driver of the car involved was not seriously injured. He was arrested at the scene of the accident. Police did not comment on possible charges.
