Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Twelve people were injured in a single vehicle accident that involved their bus Monday night. The driver of the public transport bus is alleged to have dozed at the wheel and swerved off the road. The bus was left teetering over a deep ditch.
The accident happened on a section of Highway 186 near the town of Nicolás Bravo. The Hermanos Hernández company bus was carrying 40 passengers at the time of the accident.
Paramedics and rescue teams from the town of Nicolás Bravo responded to the accident report. The bus was located on a section of highway that was under repair. The bus was found lying across the ditch.
Passengers were forced to exit the bus through windows since the door was blocked. Of the 40 people on board, 12 suffered injuries and were treated on site by Red Cross and the Fire, Rescue, Medical Emergencies paramedics before being transferred to local hospital.
The driver of the company bus fled the scene, leaving his passengers behind.
National Guard and elements of the Rural Police stationed in the area arrived to carry out the corresponding procedures. The bus was transferred to a private impound lot. The case was turned over to the State Attorney General’s Office for the corresponding investigation.
