Dead driver found laying on federal highway in semi collision outside Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — A collision between a compact car and semi trailer has killed one. The driver of a compact car that crossed into the oncoming lane was found laying dead on the highway Monday night.

Several motorists stopped to help the two men from the compact vehicle after watching it collide with the truck. Two Tulum ambulances responded to requests for assistance in the two vehicle crash.

Police also arrived in response to the 8:00 p.m. accident that left one dead and one critical. According to witness reports, the driver of the car was heading north “at excessive speed” when the driver crossed the center line and into the path of the semi.

Police located the demolished car on the Federal 307 highway near the entrance to the Aldea Tulum subdivision approximately two kilometers from the town of Tulum.

Motorists who called emergency services reported both men as being unconsciousness, however, paramedics confirmed the driver was dead at the scene. His front seat passenger was rushed to hospital in criticial conditon.

The driver of the semi was not injured in the accident. He remained at the scene while authorities conducted their initial investigation. Speed and impaired driving are being considered as factors in the Monday night crash.
