Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A criminal wanted in Texas has been captured with another man in central Playa del Carmen. The Interinstitutional Group for Peacebuilding reported Friday on the arrests two men, one of which has an outstanding warrant in the United States.
Erik “N” and Edgar Nemesio “N” were arrested while driving in central Playa del Carmen. Both are suspected of drug-related offenses. Police say Erik “N” has a criminal record in the state of Texas related to arson of a truck and a motel room.
Both detainees are also allegedly linked to a report of extortion and/or protection money targeting a laundromat.
“Following the extortion report, and through the use of technology, field investigations, and surveillance via C5 cameras, an interinstitutional coordination effort was established between the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of National Defense, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) of Quintana Roo said Friday.

“This allowed the Centurion Group, comprised of personnel from this institution and the State Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with the Mexican Navy, to detect a Chevrolet vehicle with two occupants during patrols. Upon noticing the police presence the occupants acted suspiciously.
“The incident occurred on 50th Avenue North between 38th Street North and Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue, in Playa del Carmen.”
In their report, the arresting officers said during the stop they seized 91 small Ziploc bags containing a green, dried herb resembling marijuana, 50 small Ziploc bags containing solid fragments resembling crystal methamphetamine, a white Chevrolet Tracker with license plates from the State of Mexico, two cell phones, two debit cards, three SIM cards and a backpack.

The evidence and both men were placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General (FGE). Authorities did not comment on the possible extradition of Erik “N” to Texas where he is wanted by American authorities.
