Couple extorting 10th Avenue business in central PDC in custody

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police say a man and woman were caught moments after extorting a central Playa del Carmen business. According to police, José Angel “N” and Linda Yoana “N” were arrested after driving away with extortion money from a 10th Avenue business.

They were taken into custody when patrolling officers were flagged down by the victim who explained she had just been extorted. SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) police located the man and woman and proceeded to arrest them.

According to the victim, she knew the woman and had been extorted by her before.

Police said in a statement that “Members of Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) noticed a woman signaling for help.

“Upon approaching, she informed them that moments earlier a man had extorted money from her and was with a woman in a vehicle parked a few meters away.

“She also stated that she knew the woman, as she had previously come to the business where she worked to demand money through this extortion scheme.

“The officers approached the vehicle where the man and woman were located, informed them of the accusation, and proceeded with the corresponding inspection.

“The incident occurred on 10th Avenue between 8th North Street and 10th North Street, in the Centro neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.”

At the time of their arrests, police seized three cell phones, an envelope containing 3,000 pesos in cash and their vehicle.
