Convoy escorts detained hitmen from Othón P. Blanco highway operation to Chetumal facilities

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — A convoy of official police and military vehicles escorted two men to Chetumal Tuesday. The pair were arrested during a highway operation in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.

Authorities stopped a new-model pickup truck along a section of highway near Huay Pix, west of the city of Chetumal. Inside the truck were firearms, ammunition and narcotics.

The two in custody, 38 year old Enrique “J” and 31 year old Neftaly “R”, are reported to be hitmen from a cartel. They were traveling in a pickup with out-of-state plates.

They were arrested and taken to the State Preventive Police (PEP) facilities before being transferred to FGR’s (Attorney General of the Republic) sub-delegation.

Two men were taken into custody from inside the new-model pickup Tuesday.

Simultaneously, ground and air operations were deployed in areas north of Chetumal following reports of other possible members of the same criminal group. No further arrests were made.

On Wednesday, police say the two men they arrested Tuesday in Othón P. Blanco were found with loaded weapons and a silencer. The two men were also found in possession of hundreds of bags of street-ready narcotics.

On Wednesday, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported on the arrests of Enrique “N” and Eduardo Neftali “N”. Both men are facing charges of drug trafficking and violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.

The SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) said officers were at the Fixed Security Control Module on the Chetumal-Bacalar section of federal highway when a grey pickup was stopped at kilometer 12.5 in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco.

Police said “during questioning, both he and his passenger appeared nervous. A cursory inspection revealed multiple small plastic bags containing what appeared to be marijuana.

During the full inspection, authorities said they seized over 300 street ready bags of various narcotics as well as 23 rolled joints.

“Also seized were an M&P15 .223/5.56 caliber rifle with a black silencer and a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of 5.56 caliber gold-colored ammunition, an additional 110 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a 40mm green and gold-colored grenade.

Police found a black suitcase, three black magazines with 30 rounds of 5.56 caliber ammunition each and two cell phones that were seized along with a gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck with license plates from the State of Mexico and the driver’s license.
