Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Paramedics were called to a gym in Playa del Carmen Wednesday after a client collapsed. A man, reported to be of foreign nationality, died while working out.
The incident happened Wednesday night inside an establishment called The Gym in central Playa del Carmen. The man was on a treadmill when, according to others inside The Gym, he collapsed.
Municipal Police were called to The Gym off First Avenue and Constituyentes in the city center Wednesday night. According to initial reports, the man was running on a treadmill when he suddenly collapsed.
Employees of The Gym called for help. Emergency services were sent in response to the 9-1-1 call. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
He was covered with a blue sheet while police remained on site for the coroner from the municipal Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO).
The man’s name or nationality have not been made public. While a heart attack is suspected, an autopsy will determine the official cause of death.
