City officials announce La Isla shopping centre for Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen is set to have its own La Isla shopping mall, a brand currently operating in the Cancun Hotel Zone. PDC Mayor Estefanía Mercado announced the arrival of the new shopping centre this week.

She said the project includes significant private investment and the creation of more than 2,000 jobs.

“We are proud to announce the arrival of La Isla shopping centre to Playa del Carmen, an investment that represents development, economic growth and more than 2,000 new jobs for our people,” she said.

Mercado pointed out that the development represents a boost for the local economy and strengthens Playa del Carmen’s position as one of the fastest growing and most attractive destinations for investors.

The mayor stated that the arrival of new investments is also a result of the actions implemented by her administration to strengthen security, order, and stability in the city.

“This is also a result of the work we have done to strengthen the security, order and stability of our city, creating conditions for more investments to continue coming to Playa del Carmen,” she stated.

The PDC Secretary of Territorial Planning, Hernán González De los Santos, reported that the La Isla shopping centre will be developed in the city’s urban area.

He said they are hoping developers will be able to launch the first stage yet this year. The new La Isla shopping mall will be built on a 3 to 4 hectare plot of land on the non-coastal side. Details surrounding its construction were not provided.
