Tulum, Q.R. — Road repair for the Punta Allen area is set to begin in early October. Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo said the project is scheduled to begin October 6.
He said the road will be repaired after citizen requests during his last visit to Punta Allen. Castañón Trejo said that while there, it was the most common request asked of him by local residents.
Since his visit, resources for the repair project have been approved by City Council. He noted that the main road to the community has not been repaired for more than two years.
“We are going to start, on October 6, the repair of the road. We are very happy because it was a commitment from us and it will now be done,” he explained.
Carlos Yama Moguel, the General Director of Public Infrastructure, added that after carrying out the bidding process, which lasted for several weeks, work will now be carried out to improve the main road.
He reported that approximately 40 kilometers of road from the Mayan Arch to the town will be repaired at a cost of around 10 million pesos. The repair project will consist of scraping the existing road then filling it with sascab before compacting the material to support motorized vehicles.
The project is scheduled to begin October 6 and be finished by the third week of December.
