Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — A Chetumal taxi driver who landed is cab in highway brush was lucky to walk away. On Saturday, police found the unit badly damaged and backed into highway vegetation after the driver lost control near the town of Ucum.
The accident happened along a section of the Chetumal-Escárcega highway. It is not clear how the driver ended up in the brush, but he took out a Telmex pole in the process.
The front of his unit slammed into the base of a wooden Telmex pole which completely destroyed the front end of his car. Passing motorists called for help after seeing the taxi in the bush.
Rural Police and National Guard were at the scene of the accident where they found the badly damaged car and broken Telmex pole. A tow truck was requested to remove the car which was towed to a municipal corral.
