Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — A truck belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) was destroyed by a fire on the Chetumal-Xul-Ha highway Wednesday. According to preliminary reports, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
The fire began in the engine and quickly spread, engulfing the entire vehicle. Elements of the Chetumal fire department, police and paramedics arrived after an emergency call alerting authorities to the fire at kilometer 19 of the highway.
Firemen battled stubborn flames for more than 40 before declaring the fire out. Despite efforts, the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) vehicle could not be saved.
