Tulum, Q.R. — CFE personnel were called to the scene of an early morning accident that left one of their poles partially collapsed. The pole was knocked out of place after a dozing driver slammed into its base Wednesday morning.

The 45 year old driver of the car suffered only minor injuries. He admitted to police he dozed off while driving and woke up when he hit the pole. Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were called in after police and National Guard attended to the single vehicle accident.
The crash happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. The impact left the power pole suspended over the highway by its own lines. National Guard personnel provided traffic support in the area while CFE crews began the pole repair.

Civil Protection personnel left the scene around 2:30 a.m. while CFE crews continued their repair work. Authorities did not say if any charges would be laid or if electricity in Tulum was interrupted due to the single vehicle accident.
