Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A shooting against a newly opened Playa del Carmen seafood restaurant has left dead and injured. The shooting happened Sunday night at the El Camarón Guasaveño seafood restaurant on CTM Avenue in central PDC.

At least one person standing near the front entrance of the building was killed by gunfire as armed men shot up the outside of the restaurant.
Local authorities were notified of the shooting around 9:00 p.m. that is reported to have left at least three injured.

Customers inside the restaurant dove for cover under tables while men outside opened fire, shattering windows and hitting some of those inside. Customers who did not take cover under their table reportedly escaped the gunfire by running out emergency exits.
Municipal and state police, along with National Guard and emergency medical personnel, arrived in response to reports of the shooting.
Authorities were on scene several hours while evidence was collected and the deceased removed from inside the restaurant.
At least 18 spent shell casings were collected from the street outside the restaurant. Eye witnesses said they saw the armed men take off in a waiting taxi.

There are reports that some of those injured were taken to hospital in critical condition. There are unconfirmed reports as many as four people were shot, three of whom died. The deceased person found at the restaurant was an adult male reported to have been an employee of the eatery.
The man killed at the scene was found laying facedown near the open restaurant door inside the building. Police have not released his name.

At the time of press, authorities had not provided any information on the shooting, nor have they confirmed the official number of injured or deceased.

The seafood restaurant El Camarón Guasaveño is newly opened in Playa del Carmen, operating in the city less than two weeks when the shooting happened.
