Cancun woman sentenced to 22 years for accepting money in exchange for rape

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman who accepted money to allow the rape of a young girl has been sentenced. On Thursday, a Cancun judge sentenced Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López to 22 years in prison.

She was sentenced after being found guilty of human trafficking in its form of prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation.

According to police, in June of 2023, Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López convinced the victim, a minor teen, to go live with her supposedly to improve her quality of life through a job preparing food to sell.

“Two weeks after moving in with Yoselin Yamilez, the victim saw a man arrive at the house and give the woman a roll of bills. The man then locked her inside with him and raped her. When the teenager confronted him, he said he did it because he needed the money,” police reported in a statement.

“On July 27, 2023, at around 10:00 p.m., Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López gave the victim a glass of juice which caused her to fall asleep almost immediately. Upon waking up the next day, she realized she had been raped.”

Police said the teenaged girl, who is a minor, reported the incident to her father who called 9-1-1. That call lead to the arrest of Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López.

On Thursday, the judge ordered Yoselin Yamilex Domingo López to spend 22 years in prison and pay a fine of more than 1.5 million pesos in damages.
