Cancun, Q.R. — A young woman lost her life Monday night after being hit by a motorcycle. The bike was carrying two people when the driver hit a pedestrian who was attempting to jaywalk across the street.
The accident happened on José López Portillo Avenue around 7:15 p.m. in front of dozens of witnesses who said the driver of the motorcycle was speeding and unable to stop to prevent hitting the pedestrian.
The force of the impact threw the young woman several meters. She landed on the pavement next to a sidewalk where she was pronounced dead.
Following the accident, one of the motorcyclists sustained serious head injuries and rushed to a hospital, while the second motorcyclist sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Transit officers and emergency personnel cordoned off the area while forensics removed the young woman’s body from the avenue.
Cancun authorities are investigating the fatal pedestrian accident to determine responsibility.
