Canadian suspect detained after Canadian woman found dead in Playa del Carmen resort hotel

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Canadian man has been detained after a Canadian woman was found dead inside a Riviera Maya resort hotel. On Friday morning, Playa del Carmen police were notified of the discovery of a deceased woman inside the Princess Hotel.

In a statement, SSP Solidaridad said police from the Secretariat of Public Security insured a person of foreign origin for the possible crime of femicide. The man was taken into custody “after a lifeless woman was found with possible marks of violence in a hotel located in the Xcalacoco neighborhood.

“After receiving the report of a woman without vital signs, officers went to the Princess Hotel on Xcalacoco Avenue with the Federal Maritime Zone (beachfront), where a worker pointed out 26-year-old Ryan “N”, originally from Canada, who presented apparent blood stains on his clothes and swelling on his hands and next to him, a woman lying face up on the ground with visible injuries and blood stains,” the SSP reported.

“After requesting medical support, the officers were notified by medical personnel that the woman no longer had vital signs, so the subject was insured and made available to the State Attorney General’s Office.”

In a news brief, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that “The FGE Quintana Roo reports that an investigation was initiated on a foreign person arrested for his probable participation in the femicide of a Canadian woman that occurred in a hotel in the Riviera Maya earlier today.”

Additional details surrounding the death of the woman and the arrest of the man have not been disclosed. It is not known if the woman’s body was found inside a room or on hotel property. It is also not known who the arrested man is in relation to the deceased woman.
