Tulum, Q.R. — A Canadian passenger on a motorcycle was killed Saturday in what witnesses have described as a reckless highway accident. The now-deceased woman, who has not been named, died when the cruiser she was riding collided with a semi.

The accident happened on a section of federal highway near the community of Macario Gómez in the municipality of Tulum Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were called around 1:30 p.m. by witnesses who saw the two vehicles collide.
According to one witness, the male driver of the highway cruiser motorcycle was attempting a turn to cross to the other side of the road when he crossed into the path of the oncoming semi.

The impact threw the female passenger off the bike and under the front passenger wheel of the large vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was reported seriously injured and transferred to hospital alive.
The pair were reportedly touring the municipality of Tulum on a highway cruiser at the time of the accident. The driver of the semi was taken in for questioning.

Local authorities have not commented publicly on the accident that left a Canadian woman dead.
