Beachgoer killed by lightning in Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — Authorities in Tulum attended the scene of a death at a beach after a woman was killed from a lightening strike. The unusual accident happened on a beach around Kilometre 9.5 of the hotel zone of Tulum.

Authorities responded to the call of a beachgoer being in the vicinity of a lightening strike. The director of the Tulum fire department Oscar Pérez Ortigosa arrived along with police and medical personnel.

Tulum paramedic Amir Canul ruled that upon their arrival, the woman was already without vital signs. Two members of Civil Protection also responded to the call.

According to witnesses, it was around 6:30 when a woman of approximately 40 years of age was swimming in the sea when lightning struck. The woman was rendered immobile. The woman, who is unofficially said to be a tourist to the area, has not been identified.
