Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum firemen were at the scene of an early morning business blaze on Las 5 Calles. Bad wiring inside an area used as a cold room is being blamed for the fire that destroyed a fruit shop Friday.
Elements of the fire department, along with personnel from Tulum Civil Protection, were at the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. in response to emergency 9-1-1 reports. The fire happened at a business on Kukulcán Avenue at the corner of Ocelote Street in the Ejidal neighborhood.
Upon arrival, firefighters realized two palapas at the front of the business were burning. While they began the task of dousing the dry grass, Civil Protection used extinguishers to stop the flames from melting the overhead electric lines.

Both teams worked for nearly an hour after needing assistance from the CFE to cut power when a transformer also began to burn. There were no reports of injuries in the fire.
