Tulum, Q.R. — A woman from France was killed Sunday in a two vehicle accident outside the town of Tulum. Police were notified of the collision between a car and semi shortly after 11:00 a.m.
The young woman riding in the back seat of the private car was killed after being hit by the semi. The accident happened on a section of Tulum-Cobá state highway around 11:10 a.m. approximately 12 kilometers west of the town of Tulum
According to preliminary information, the driver of the company semi hit the car when he tried to go around it as the driver turned off the highway. The male driver of the private car slowed down to enter a cenote side road when the oncoming semi hit the back of the car.
Three people from inside the car were heading to a cenote in Ati’ik Tulum Park when the back of the car was struck by the large unit. The car was then dragged for a little more than 50 meters before finally coming to a stop off the highway. The woman in the back passenger seat was killed due to the impact.
Police and emergency services were at the scene for several hours while statements were taken and the body removed. Authorities have not confirmed if the deceased woman was a tourist from France or a local resident.
