Authorities shut down tourist drug sale point on Tulum beach

Tulum, Q.R. — An anonymous complaint lead authorities to a drug sale point for tourists on a Tulum beach. On Thursday, the State Attorney General’s Office reported on the Playa Maya operation.

“After an anonymous complaint, an inspection was carried out in the Playa Maya area regarding the sale of drugs to tourists,” the agency reported in a statement. The FGE said that during their inspection, they located bags of powdered cocaine.

The Fiscalia General del Estado (FGE) de Quintana Roo located the drugs on a private fishing boat Wednesday. The boat was registered as Puerto Playa del Carmen. The drug sales point was specifically aimed at tourists.

The anonymous complaint was made after someone witnessed the exchange between local drug dealers and tourists. The boat has been seized.

Elements of the Specialized Prosecutor in Drug Dealing from Playa del Carmen along with Tulum State Police, Tulum Ministerial Police and the Secretary of the Navy, participated in the operation.
