Tulum, Q.R. — Carlos “M” was arrested in Tulum for his probable participation in the crime of political violence based on gender to the detriment of a female victim. He was located and arrested after deactivating his electronic ankle bracelet.
According to the FGE of Quintana Roo, during the 2018-2019 electoral process, the defendant, through his social networks, published videos making sexist comments and gender-based violence to the detriment of a female victim.
Based on a complaint filed with prosecutors specialized in Attention to Crimes against Women, they began the investigation that resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Carlos “M”.
On Sunday, Carlos “M” was picked up by Investigative Police in the town of Tulum and later transferred to the Social Reintegration Center of Chetumal.
According to a statement from the FGE, they reported that Carlos “M” was being held in pretrial detention after being charged with political and gender violence. However, at the end of last year, he obtained a change in his precautionary measure which allowed him to continue his legal process at home with the use of an electronic ankle bracelet.
The FGE reported that Carlos “M” breached his at-home arrest agreement by deactivating the electronic device.
“There are other investigations against him for political and gender violence and for the crime of attempted homicide,” the agency added noting that Carlos “M” has also “been found guilty by a federal judge for the crime of making threats against a journalist.”
