At least 18 in need of medical attention in Othón P. Blanco bus rollover

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — At least 18 people were injured Thursday night in a bus rollover near the town of Nachi Cocom. Emergency services from the city of Chetumal attended the scene of the accident.

The passenger bus that was heading for Chetumal overturned around 2:00 a.m. as it entered the town of Nachi Cocom, approximately 51 kilometers north of the city.

The accident reportedly occurred after the driver, who was traveling from Tabasco, allegedly fell asleep while driving.

Several ambulances responded to the need for medical assistance due to the number of passengers on the bus. Of the 18, five people were reported seriously injured.

During the inspection inside the bus, it was confirmed that a 50-year-old woman had lost an arm. Two passengers were found trapped inside the bus.

Firemen from Chetumal and personnel from the Southern Fire and Emergency Medical Unit, supported by the Red Cross, worked to free those found trapped. Emergency crews were on site nearly four hours.

Authorities are investigating the official of the rollover.
