Armed men storm Tulum construction site in attempted payroll robbery

Tulum, Q.R. — Two people are in custody after assaulting workers during an attempt to rob a construction company of its payroll. Tulum police were at the site Saturday morning after a 9-1-1 report of the incident.

According to available information, three men stormed the construction site. They demanded to speak with the foreman who was in charge of handling the payroll cash. When the foreman could not be found, the three men robbed the workers instead.

Two of the construction workers were injured after being hit with the butt of a gun during the robbery. Another worker was able to call police.

State police arrived to support the search operation for the third man who got away. December 13, 2025.

Municipal authorities arrived at the construction site, at which time all three men made a run for it. Two were captured in a nearby wooded area, however, the third managed an escape.

State police and military personnel arrived to reinforce the operation. Some of the stolen items taken from the workers was recovered during the arrest of two of the men.

The robbery happened at the ICHT housing development Saturday morning. The two injured workers received medical attention at the scene from Tulum Hospital paramedics. Tulum police are continuing their search for the third suspect.
