Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen firemen were at the scene of a central apartment fire Tuesday. A large emergency response team were at the scene Tuesday afternoon at a residential building along 16th Street.

Police and other emergency service personnel were at the intersection of 15th Avenue and 16th Street after a report of an apartment fire. Firemen were called to the second floor unit where flames were well advanced throughout several areas of the apartment.
Civil Protection evacuated residents while firemen worked to extinguish flames.
At least two large areas of the apartment were completely gutted by the afternoon fire. A bedroom was left destroyed by heat, smoke and water damage, while a kitchen utility area was left in ruins from flames.
One person was reported treated at the scene for shock but not transferred to hospital. Playa del Carmen authorities have not provided a cause for the fire.
