Ambulances rush injured to hospital in three vehicle highway crash outside Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — According to early information, several people have been rushed to hospital following a serious highway accident in the municipality of Tulum. Emergency services were called to the scene near the area of Cachimba early Tuesday morning after a crash between three vehicles.

A passenger bus and two private cars were involved in the 8:30 a.m. highway accident that has left an undisclosed number of people injured.

Emergency services from Tulum attended to reports of the accident that has left the federal 307 highway partially shut. According to authorities, traffic is heavily affected in both directions.

Three vehicles were involved in the early morning accident.

A second bus arrived to move passengers from the damaged vehicle onto a new bus. Ambulance, police, national guard and tow trucks were reported in the area attending to the scene.

Two cars were involved in the early morning crash. One car was found lodged against the front driver’s side tire of the bus, while the second was found overturned in highway vegetation across the highway.

A second car was found overturned on the opposite side of the highway.

Motorists stopped to help several people get out of the damaged cars. Police remain at the scene. An official cause for the three vehicle crash remains unknown however, early reports say the driver of one of the private cars crossed the into the oncoming lane, crashing into another car that overturned. The oncoming bus was unable to stop in time before hitting one of the cars.
