Akumal business owner gunned down outside restaurant in targeted attack

Akumal, Q.R. — A man who has been identified as a business owner and former Akumal delegate has been murdered. Melchor Gamboa, a businessman who at one time served as municipal delegate of Akumal, was murdered Thursday night.

His body was found shot to death outside Tequila Ville, a restaurant he owned. Initial reports say he was shot four times in a targeted shooting by hitmen from inside a grey Corolla.

Eye witnesses reported seeing the men inside the car take aim at Gamboa. “It all happened very fast. We just heard the gunshots,” said a witness who asked not to be named.

The body of Melchor Gamboa was found laying at the front entrance of his building where he was standing when the gunmen arrived. He was confirmed dead by paramedics.

Municipal Police and National Guard cordoned off the area while investigators began the collection of evidence. Police were not able to locate the car witnesses reported seeing during the shooting.

Authorities have not commented on the shooting or provided a possible motive for the attack.
