Tulum, Q. R. — An afternoon Tulum house fire left two buildings destroyed and a third heavily damaged. Firemen were made aware of a fire in central Tulum around 2:00 p.m. Friday.
By the time they arrived, winds had already spread the fire to other buildings. Two buildings burned. A third was saved but damaged after the homeowner lost a palapa.
Tulum Fire Chief Benjamín Heredia Monforte said the fire is believed to have started in a small three-square-meter hut that was used to store wooden and cardboard boxes. Due to its contents, the hut quickly burned and spread to nearby buildings.
