Aerial search team locates four missing marines off coast of Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — Four marines reported lost at sea were found Thursday off the coast of Tulum. According to information provided by the Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo, the four men were located during an aerial search Thursday.

Their search and subsequent rescue was in coordination with SSC state authorities and the Navy. The sailors were located in their vessel after departing Emilian Zapata Bay near Punta Allen in the municipality of Tulum the night before.

The four men were eventually located near Vigia Grande, several kilometers from their starting point where they were rescued using the state’s Aguila II helicopter.

In a statement, the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana de Q.Roo) said “using the Ministry of Security’s “Aguila II” helicopter, in coordination with members of the Navy, a vessel and its four sailors were located and rescued, all of whom are safe and receiving appropriate care.

“The incident occurred in the Emiliano Zapata Bay area, between Punta Allen and Punta Pájaros. The search began in Cayo Calebra, then proceeded toward Vigía Chico and continued along the coastline to Vigía Grande. A vessel matching the characteristics indicated in the authorities’ report was located there.”
