Abandoned car seized for investigation into fatal motorcycle hit and run

Cancun, Q.R. — A car believed responsible for the death of a Cancun motorcycle driver has been found. The car, which was abandoned, was reported as suspicious by residents in SM 214 Monday.

The car found is believed responsible for the fatal hit and run May 9, 2026.

Residents out walking a dirt road in their neighborhood came upon the car with a smashed windshield. The vehicle had been left on the road for several hours when neighbors decided to call police.

Authorities have since seized the black Nissan for an investigation into the Saturday morning death of a motorcycle driver. The accident was captured on city cameras around 2:00 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Arco Vial and Costa Maya Avenue.

Initial reports said the driver of the bike died after falling to the pavement and skidding, however, Cancun C5 security cameras captured a black car hitting the motorcycle and not stopping.

The car was located abandoned on a dirt road in the La Unión informal settlement of Cancun heavily damaged and with empty beer cans and bottles left inside.

According to authorities, the vehicle may be related to the accident that occurred early Saturday morning on the Arco Vial where the motorcyclist lost his life.
